Liquidation

The forced closing of a leveraged position when the loss eats up the collateral (margin).

If the price moves against a leveraged position and the collateral is not enough to cover the loss, the exchange automatically closes the position — this is liquidation. The trader loses the deposited margin. The higher the leverage, the closer the liquidation price.
