CEX (centralized exchange)

An exchange operated by a company that holds users' funds (Binance, Bybit, OKX).

A CEX is a familiar exchange with an order book, support, and fiat deposits. It is convenient and liquid, but requires trusting the operator and often KYC. Funds are held on the exchange, which carries counterparty risk.
